Itinerary Teaser

Day 1

Once you have touched down at Juan Santamaria International Airport, your pre-arranged transfer will take you straight to your volunteer accommodation in Turrúcares, only an hour drive from San Jose. Relax, settle in and meet some of the other volunteers.

Day 2

Head to orientation with the other volunteers, where you’ll be taken on a tour of the centre, learn about its history and hear the touching stories of how many animals have arrived there. You’ll be assigned a room and briefed on the rules and procedures of the site.

Day 3+

7.00am: Rise and shine, it’s breakfast time. Indulge in a traditional Costa Rican dish prepared for you by the project staff.  8.00am: Join in on the morning’s duty meeting and commence your morning shift of volunteer duties. You could find yourself spending the morning building and cleaning enclosures, planting and maintaining surrounding gardens, creating stimulating toys for the animals or preparing food for all the animals. 12.00pm: Take a well-deserved lunch break at the volunteer house and relax by the pool with the other volunteers.  2.00pm: Start your afternoon shift of volunteer duties. These may include preparing and participating in environmental education sessions, ensuring the animals have clean and secure living quarters or taking part in one of the special projects, such as taking an inventory of animals and supplies, photography or event planning. 5.00pm: Dinner will be served at the volunteer house - eat and catch up with the other volunteers about your day. 7.00pm: Feed the animals the food you prepared earlier for their scheduled evening meal. Days off: You’ll have one day off per week, which gives you the perfect opportunity to head to the central market with your new friends, relax in the beautiful botanical gardens or visit the turtle hatchery and waterfalls nearby.
